Do you look after someone who is ill or disabled?
Are you a carer? There are an estimated 10,775 carers in East Lothian, looking after a partner, relative, friend or neighbour. You might be a child or a young person under the age of 18. You might live the person you care for or come in to provide care. Many people provide care but not everyone thinks of themselves as a carer.
You don’t have to manage by yourself unless you want to. Help is available.
| For example, we can: |
- let you know about welfare benefits – money for you and the person that you look after
- arrange respite care – breaks for you during the day and/or overnight
- provide opportunities to meet with other carers in a similar situation
- give you advice about other types of care, for example, in care homes
