Looking for somewhere to live?

Looking for somewhere to live can be expensive, time-consuming and wearisome  - but our Property Shop helps lift some of the burden for you. To assist you, we have provided information about currently available properties in East Lothian for rent or sale, and how to apply for or buy these properties.



The East Lothian Property Shop is divided into sections as follows:

Council Housing  - Getting onto the housing list.

Renting privately  - lists the main agents and solicitors who act for landlords in East Lothian. In contains links to many websites where you can see for yourself what properties are on offer. Advice is available here about your rights when seeking private accommodation.

The section on Housing Associations tells you how to go about finding a Housing Association property. It contains links to social landlords sites, details about their policies and the categories of tenant who get priority when applying.

For older people we provide infomation about Sheltered Housing and Abbeyfield Houses. Housing information for the disabled can be found here.

Advice on your housing options can be given in some cases, through our pilot 'Homeseeker' project.

House Purchase in East Lothian may be an option and details of solicitors and estate agents can be found here. An assisted purchase scheme is available to low income households called LIFT. Private sector purchasers will want to know more about the financial services local Banks and Building Societies can offer. Information about them can be found here.
