The Building Standards Unit performs a statutory regulatory serviceo fulfil the Council’s legal and verification roles under the Building (Scotland) Act 2003 and associated Building (Scotland) Regulations 2004 by ensuring that all relevant construction work within the council’s area conforms to the minimum standards set by the building regulations and that appropriate action is taken to control dangerous buildings and unauthorised work.
The Unit also acts as a consultant on licensing applications for: -
- Liquor premises,
- Occasional licenses and permissions,
- Public entertainment venues,
- Houses in multiple occupation,
- A Sports ground and other sporting venues, and
- Marriage venues.
Other duties are: -
- Providing advice to anyone in regard to the application and interpretation of Technical Standards contained in the Building Regulations,
- Reporting on central and solicitors’ property enquiries, and
- Involvement in the strategy for and the delivery of fire precaution/health & safety risk assessments for all council properties.
