The Arts Service of East Lothian Council has responsibility for developing, managing and supporting a wide range of cultural activities throughout the area. The Arts play a key role in the life of the community and the Arts Service offers activities and events that seek to support the interests and aspirations of East Lothian residents. The Service is located in Brunton Hall Musselburgh and from its base it provides a service that supports the local arts infrastructure throughout East Lothian.
- The Arts Service currently has responsibility for the following main activities:
- Brunton Theatre management
- Brunton Youth Theatre and East Lothian Youth Dance Company (external site)
- Drama teaching service for schools
- Artists in schools programme and Cultural Co-Ordinator's initiative
- Dance development programme
- Community Arts programme
- Visual Arts and Crafts development programme
- Public Art programme
- Advice on arts matters and equipment loan
- Booking service for Brunton Hall (Main Hall and Supper Room)
Through the development and support of projects allied to the above areas, the Arts Service has undertaken a wide arts development programme.

- Craft residencies in schools
- Craft residencies at Prestongrange Museum
- Moving Image education projects with D Fie Foe and Edinburgh Filmhouse
- Brunton Theatre Residency programme with Catherine Wheels Theatre Company (external site)
- Benchtours Theatre Company and The Curve Foundation Dance Company (external sites)
- After school arts and new technology courses for pupils in P6 - S2
- Environmental Arts projects with Our Dynamic Earth
- Drama resources for primary schools
- Out of school hours activity programmes
