Guidelines for Submitting Online Planning Applications. In order for East Lothian Council to accept an online application the following must be provided with the submission:-

Drawings - These should include a scale bar as well as having the scale marked on them (see Drawing Scales below). Also in the Description field please put what size of paper the drawing requires to be printed onto e.g. A4, A3, A2, A0
Please ensure that no drawings/brochures are above 1MB each in file size.

Fee, if applicable.

For larger applications, it would be beneficial if we could have a cd with the plans and any supporting documentation in .pdf format (Adobe).

If you require help/assistance completing the form you should contact 01620 827216 and ask to speak to the Planning Technician.

Drawing Scales
All drawings must have a scale marked on them including a scale bar:

1:50 or 1:100 - floor plans/elevations;
1:200 or 1:500 - site/block plan;
1:1250 or 1:2500 - location plan;
1:10 or 1:20 - details/sections (windows, doors etc.)

Brochures/Photographs
As an alternative to drawings, brochures may be appropriate for giving the details of a satellite dish, garden shed, windows, oil tank. Please ensure that if you enclose the brochure the product is clearly marked, or alternatively, enclose only the relevant page(s); For Conservation Area Consent or retrospective applications for development already carried out photographs of the building/structure to be demolished or of the new development carried out may be appropriate, as an alternative to detailed drawings. If you use photographs or brochures you must provide details/specifications of the dimensions of the object(s) featured or marked.

Drawing Colours
Site and location plans - development site must be outlined in red and all new works should be clearly marked and noted; Other land within the applicant's ownership/control must be outlined in blue; All new works must be coloured on floor/elevations drawings.

How can you help us
Please try to avoid using yellow and orange as these are not suitable colours for scanning;

Please ensure that all colouring is dark enough to show on the scanned drawings;
Do not use pencil;
Do not use dark coloured paper for drawings (e.g. blue print);
Do not insert photographs into drawings.
Benefits of using online forms
Online applications will be processed and passed to the Planning Technician within one hour of receipt to check its validity.
