Social work services in the criminal justice system involve:

• supervising offenders in the community
• supervising people leaving prison on licence 
• providing reports to Courts, as an aid to sentencingproviding
• reports to Procurators Fiscal to aid decisions about alternatives to prosecution
• providing reports to the Parole Board, to aid decision-making about early release from prison
• providing assistance to witnesses and other people attending court
• supporting the families of prisoners  
• supporting victims of crime.
