Dunbar Leisure Pool sits above the harbour affording views across the Firth of Forth from both the pool and café. The pool has many features that make it an exciting trip for all the family. The big, yellow flume with its separate splash pool is the main feature of the pool although it also has waves, sprays and a bubble bed. For those who want to do some more serious swimming there is a six-lane pool and specific quiet times when the water features are turned off to allow you to train in peace. With a hall suitable for badminton, a health suite and extensive new Bodyworks gym there is something for everyone. Not far from the pool is Lauderdale Park, a walled garden that is ideal for summer picnics and offers some activities for younger children.

North Berwick is a popular holiday destination and the extensive putting greens on the East and West Links are always a popular attraction. The swimming pool at North Berwick Sports Centre is only a few years old and while you swim you have an uninterrupted view of North Berwick Law topped by its distinctive arch. The sports centre is an ideal place for those wanting to relax in a sauna, steam room or bubbling spa or have an energetic workout in the pool or new state of the art Bodyworks gym. There are regular aerobics classes and for games of badminton, 5-a-side football and basketball the hall is ideal with viewing available from the café or balcony. Children always enjoy the soft play or if they are old enough, the trampolines.

In Haddington the Aubigny Sports Centre provides facilities for everyone. As well as a swimming pool and health suite with sauna and steam room, the sports hall has a variety of uses including basketball, badminton and football. Next to the pool is a small teaching pool that is a big favourite with young children. The recently refurbished Bodyworks gym and aerobics studio complete the facility.

Meadowmill Sports Centre, Tranent is a centre for sporting excellence with an activity hall, outdoor pitches, Bodyworks gym, free weights and soft play. The town of Tranent itself has the Loch Centre, and visitors can enjoy the swimming pool, sauna and steam room as well as an air-conditioned Bodyworks gym with state of the art equipment. The hall is used for a number of sports as well as social functions and there is also a soft play area.

Musselburgh has a Sports Centre with a pool with sauna, steam room and bubbling spa along with a sports hall, which can accommodate a wide range of sports. The centre also has two squash courts, Bodyworks gym and soft play so there is plenty to occupy everyone regardless of age.

Across the road from the sports centre is Lewisvale Park, which has recently benefited from a major renovation programme. It has two play areas - a play and picnic area in the centre of the park has a selection of exciting play equipment for youngsters to enjoy along with a woodland play area. The paddling pool has been restored and a new aviary constructed. Also in Musselburgh towards the harbour at Fisherow are bowling greens and a pitch and putt course. At the east end of the town is the famous nine-hole golf course, Musselburgh Links - The Old Golf Course. Tradition says that Mary, Queen of Scots played here in 1567, and although records for the course only date back to 1672, it is still one of the oldest courses in the world.

All the sports centres have cafes that can provide snacks and light meals and they are situated to allow you to view activities in the hall or pool while you relax. The Centres also offer a wide variety of coached classes and there are regular crèches to allow parents to take part in activities. The sports halls and pools can be hired for private functions such as birthday parties or tournaments and staff at the centres will be happy to explain further.

As you can see, there is a wide variety of sports and activities to take part in whether you are serious about sport or just want a bit of fun. For further information on activities, please contact SportPlus on 01620 827474 or your nearest sports centre and have some fun.
