| Books at Whittingehame Parish Library |
The Centre has a vast collection of books. As well as material relating to East Lothian and Inveresk we also have more general works. For example, books on church architecture and family history research.
Sitting alongside our book collection we have a number of almanacs and registers dating from the 1820s to the present day. Almanacs, much like today's local directories, were printed detailing a range of useful information – freeholders, teachers, clergy, inns, markets, businesses and much, much more.
The earlier ones tend to focus on the great and the good of society. Although it can be time-consuming to work through them many researchers have used them to find elusive family history information.
