| Welcome to the East Lothian Smoking & Health Partnership. |
| The Partnership welcomes the recent legislation that will come into force from 1st October 2007 raising the legal purchase age for buying cigarettes from 16 to 18 years. |
| The recent statistics from the Scottish Adolescent Lifestyle & Substance Abuse (SALSUS) survey 2006 are reassuring as they show a drop in the numbers of young people smoking. However we cannot be complacent. We hope that this new legislation alongside other preventative work being developed locally and young people’s services will encourage less young people to take up smoking and motivate those who currently smoke to stop. |
