World Famous Golf in East Lothian
For a relatively small county East Lothian manages to fit in comfortably 19 golf courses which are a mixture of renowned links like Muirfield, Gullane and North Berwick and picturesque parkland venues such as Haddington, Gifford and Castle Park which makes it a Mecca for golfers worldwide.
East Lothian provides one of the finest collections of golf courses in Scotland, all within easy reach of the next.
Musselburgh old course, the oldest playing golf course in the world, is unusually situated in the middle of Musselburgh racecourse and it is rumoured that Mary Queen of Scots played there. Further along the coast Gullane, famous for having 5 courses, includes Muirfield host to the 2002 British Open.
There are several championship qualifiers in East Lothian; Dunbar, Luffness New, Gullane No1 and North Berwick West Links.
