Doing Business in East Lothian

East Lothian Council Economic Development Division’s remit is to improve and promote the infrastructure for business, property, tourism, skills and access to jobs.

Within the Division is the Business Gateway.  The Business Gateway is a single access point providing a range of integrated services for:-

  • Business information
  • Business Stat-Up
  • Business Growth

Business Information – Everybody needs access to up to date information to gain and maintain that important competitive edge.  Whatever the need from general advice to specialist help, our business advisers know how to get it.

Business Start Up – Offers all the advice, information and training people need through the crucial stages of setting up and planning their business.  It is an integrated service tailored to meet individual needs.  Whether people are going it alone or intend working with others they will benefit from access to market research, one to one sessions with an experienced business adviser, flexible training, specialist advice and the opportunity to network.  Our help extends beyond the launch period; when the business is up and running we supply on-going support in the form of further business development and advice.

Business Growth – East Lothian companies can get a wide range of information and contacts for additional support.  Our staff have up to minute information on specific areas from VAT and tax to the opportunities presented by ‘e’-commerce.  Additionally, there is the opportunity to go through a process that will provide a detailed assessment of future business needs and help map out an agreed action plan with access to Scottish Enterprise and local funding products.

For further information on any of our services telephone 01620 827282.
