Community Safety

Community Safety

Community safety means different things to different people and although there is no set definition, the Convention of Scottish Local Authorities (CoSLA) collectively describes it as:
Protecting peoples right to live in confidence and without fear for their own or other peoples safety
The community safety remit covers a broad range of issues including (but not restricted to); reducing crime and the fear of crime; addressing anti-social behaviour; tackling drug and alcohol abuse; improving road safety; fire prevention; and the enhancement of the local environment in pursuit of the foregoing.
The East Lothian Community Safety Partnership was established in 1997 with the key purpose of making East Lothian a safer place to live, work and travel in.
Each individual partner organisation contributes to the forum with their own unique knowledge, experience, skills and resources. Past and present endeavours have shown that working together can produce impressive results - results that we aim to build on.
The present community safety partners are:
o
East Lothian Council
o
Lothian and Borders Police
o
Lothian and Borders Fire and Rescue Service
o
East Lothian Health Care Co-operative
o
East Lothian Voluntary Organisation Network (ELVON)
o
Mid and East Lothian Drugs (MELD)
o
Victim Support Mid and East Lothian
o
Association of East Lothian Community Councils
