Heritage Explorer II
Industry, religion & war

A second colour leaflet describing a range of archaeological and historical sites across East Lothian is now available. Heritage Explorer II details the buildings and places of interest in the county covering the period 1500 to 1945.

Cabinet Member for Community Services, Cllr. Stuart Currie said “This second leaflet describes a fascinating range of sites from the late Medieval period through to the Second World War. The sites represented in the leaflet are some of our best examples from this period and we are indebted to the landowners who have given their permission for access to them.”

Complementing the first leaflet, which was produced earlier this year, this second leaflet describes over 70 sites which can be visited and explored. Opening out to a full colour map of East Lothian Heritage Explorer II includes information about sites such as late Medieval churches, mills, doocots, industrial sites and military sites.

Stephanie Leith from the East Lothian Council Archaeology Service said: “Heritage Explorer I, the first in the series, which describes archaeological sites from the prehistoric to Medieval period, has been an overwhelming success, especially in libraries and tourist information centres. There has been a huge interest in these leaflets both locally and from tourists and the Archaeology Service already has a waiting list for people interested in obtaining this second leaflet in the series.”
