The East Lothian Local Plan 2000 is the adopted local plan for the whole of East Lothian. It explains and justifies East Lothian Council's approach to the development and use of land and buildings within East Lothian. Together with the Edinburgh and The Lothians Structure Plan 2015 it forms the statutory development plan for East Lothian.
Local Plan Review
The Local Plan is currently under review and the stages involved in this are outlined below. Whilst the Local Plan was only adopted in April 2001 the replacement Structure Plan that is now in place includes new housing and employment land requirements over the period to 2015. Local Plans must conform to an approved Structure Plan and, as such, a Local Plan review is necessary to ensure that East Lothian has an updated Development Plan framework available at the earliest opportunity.
Notice of Intention to Review Plan
East Lothian Council published a notice of intention to review the East Lothian Local Plan 2000 in October 2001. This comprised a series of statutory notices inserted into local newspapers during this month.
