This strategy has been developed in response to the introduction of Part IIA of the Environmental Protection Act 1990 which requires East Lothian Council to inspect and identify any sites that might be contaminated in such a manner that it is likely to result in harm being caused to humans, buildings, ecosystems or controlled waters.

The strategy will provide a basis by which East Lothian Council can implement procedures for identifying and remediating contaminated land.
