Recycling Centres

Please note that Winter Opening Hours will commence on Saturday 27th September 2008.

East Lothian now has four Recycling Centres where you can recycle more materials than anywhere else in the area.

Skips are provided to deposit the following materials for recycling or reuse:

§                Green garden waste

§                Cardboard

§                Scrap metal

§                Rubble

§                Solid timber

§                Paper

§                Green, clear and brown glass

§                Steel & aluminium cans and clean foil

§                Plastic bottles

§                Textiles and shoes

§                Vegetable oil

§                Engine oil

§                Gas cylinders

§                Car batteries

The Centres also have facilities to deposit excess household waste, but this has to be separated into two different skips.   Carpets, mattresses and sofas go in one skip, which is currently sent to landfill. The other skip is for mixed household waste, which is sent to be sorted- so anything which can be usefully recycled is removed before the rest is sent to landfill.  Although this process is worthwhile, it is more efficient to collect material for recycling in the separate skips provided- so please make every effort to keep anything that can be recycled separate, it will make your visit to the Centre much easier and help us to recycle more of East Lothian's waste.

The sites are located at:
Kinwegar Recycling Centre
A199 Haddington Road (near Wallyford Toll)
Wallyford
EH21 6DN

Dunbar Community Recycling Centre
Spott Road Industrial Estate
Dunbar

North Berwick Recycling Centre
Heugh Brae
North Berwick
EH39 5NE

Macmerry Recycling Centre
Macmerry Industrial Estate
Macmerry
EH33 1RD

The sites operate seven days a week and are open as follows:
Summer (April to September)          8.30am to 6.30pm

Winter (October to March)              8.30am to 4.15pm

Please note that charges apply for trade waste deposited at these sites.

Both Kinwegar and Dunbar Recycling Centres have a raised area so you can deposit material into the skips without climbing stairs.  These Centres also accept waste from businesses through a separate entrance, which is equipped with a weighbridge so business waste can be accurately weighed and charged for.
